This year’s Waterford Arts Festival will screen a series of French Films as part of this year’s festival, from 28 October – 1 November at the Storm Cinema, Poleberry, Waterford. Films include Olivier Dahan’s ‘La Vie En Rose’ and Gillo Pentocorvo’s ‘Battle of Algiers’.
The screenings kick off on Sunday 28th October at 8pm with Olivier Dahan’s ‘La Vie En Rose’. The biopic, starring Marion Cotillard and Gerard Depardieu, follows the trouble life of French singer Edith Piaf, whose hits include ‘Je ne Regrette Rien’ and ‘Milord and Non’.
Guaillaume Canet’s ‘Tell No One’ (Ne le Dit a Personne) is an adaptation of Arlen Coben’s best-selling novel. This award-winning thriller features Kirstin Scott Thomas in a French-speaking role. Monday 29th October, 8pm.
‘Battle of Algiers’, directed by Gillo Pentocorvo, is a reconstruction of the Algerian struggle for independence during the mid 1950’s. Tuesday 30th October, 8pm.
Laurent Tirard’s ‘Moliere’ is a comedy that imagines what may have happened the French playwright when he mysteriously disappeared for several weeks early in his career. Wednesday 31st October, 8pm.
Patrice Leconte’s ‘My Best Friend’ tells the story of unlikeable character Francois, whose business partner Catherine refuses to believe he has a best friend. She challenges him to arrange an introduction, and Francois enlists charming taxi driver Bruno to take on the role. ‘My Best Friend’ screens on Thursday 1st November, 8pm.
