A host of African directors, writers and actors will arrive in Dublin this month for the 2nd Dublin African Film Festival (20 – 22 April). The festival opens with the gala screening of Andy Amenechi’s latest feature ‘The Concubine’ followed by a Q&A with the director.
Other festival highlights include special screenings of award winning African features. On Saturday 21st, the BAFTA nominated ‘Le Grande Voyage’ will be shown and attended by director Ismaël Ferroukhi. In addition, Ingrid Sinclair, the award winning director of ‘Flame’, will introduce her feature and participate in a post screening Q&A.
A host of Nollywood actors will be in town to help celebrate the festival including Richard Mofe Damijo,
Genevieve Nnaji (The face of Lux Africa), Bob Manuel andJustice Esiri. Michael Auret, Director of the Sithengi Film Festival and Market, will also be in town.
Other features include the Nigerian feature ‘Warrior Heart’ and a screening of Ousmane Sembene’s ‘Moolaade’. Sembene, whose filmmaking career spans 30 years is regarded as the Father of African Cinema.
The festival closes on 22 April with a screening of Ian Gabriel’s ‘Forgiveness’ followed by a closing speech from the Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland.
All films will screen at Dublin’s Cineworld cinemas. The festival ticket office opens at Cineworld from 19 April.
