Cronin’s upcoming film Evil Dead Rise, the latest installment in the horror franchise, debuted at SXSW in March and will release in Irish cinemas later this month.
Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground, Evil Dead Rise) will direct original horror-thriller Thaw for New Line Cinema.
Thaw, set in the wake of melted polar ice caps and rising sea levels, follows a group of survivors searching for a new home. They discover an inhabitable town, but soon encounter a new nightmare living just below the water’s surface.
The film will be produced by Van Toffler and David Gale (Æon Flux, Election) for Gunpowder & Sky, and Adam Goldworm (My Friend Dahmer) for Aperture. The original spec script was written by Jeremy Passmore (San Andreas, Red Dawn) and developed with Goldworm, then sold to media company Gunpowder & Sky.
Cronin recently worked with New Line on his upcoming feature film Evil Dead Rise. Evil Dead filmmaker Sam Raimi approached him to direct the sequel following the premiere of Cronin’s debut feature, The Hole in the Ground, at the Sundance Film Festival 2019. His 2013 short Ghost Train won the Méliès d’Argent for best European fantastic short film.
Evil Dead Rise releases in Irish cinemas on April 21st.
