North American distribution rights to the Irish supernatural comedy have been acquired by Good Deed Entertainment’s Cranked Up Films.
Extra Ordinary, is the debut feature from Irish co-directors Mike Ahern & Enda Loughman, who also co-wrote the script for the fantasy-based comedy. The feature premiered at SXSW in March, before screening at the Cannes 2019 market in May.
The film stars Irish comedian, podcaster and author, Maeve Higgins (‘Moone Boy’), IFTA nominee Barry Ward (‘Maze’), Australian actress Claudia O’Doherty (‘Trainwreck’) and former Saturday Night Live Star, Will Forte (‘Nebraska’). The film also boasts a strong Irish cast with Siobhan McSweeney (‘Derry Girls’), Risteard Cooper (‘Apres Match’), Alison Spittle (‘Nowhere Fast’), Mary McEvoy (‘Glenroe’) and Jamie Beamish (‘Derry Girls’) rounding out the cast.
‘Extra Ordinary’ follows the story of Rose (Higgins), a sweet, lonely driving instructor in rural Ireland, who is gifted with supernatural abilities. Rose has a love/hate relationship with her ‘talents’ & tries to ignore the constant spirit related requests from locals - to exorcise possessed rubbish bins or haunted gravel. But Christian Winter (Forte), a washed up, one-hit-wonder rock star, has made a pact with the devil for a return to greatness. He puts a spell on a local teenager making her levitate, leaving her terrified father, Martin Martin, to ask Rose for her help in saving his daughter.
Speaking to Deadline, Scott Donley, CEO and founder of Good Deed said:
“We’re so excited to share Extra Ordinary with audiences. The film had a wonderful response at SXSW and we are delighted to release this genre-bending film with fans of horror, romance, and comedy alike.”
Filmed on location in Kildare, Tullamore and Wicklow last year, ‘Extra Ordinary’ is produced by Blinder Films’ Katie Holly (‘Love & Friendship’), Yvonne Donohoe (‘Striking Out’), Ailish Bracken (‘The Lodgers’) and Mary McCarthy (‘The Delinquent Season’). The film is a co-production with Umedia, who also funded the project alongside Screen Ireland and Inevitable Pictures.
Wildcard Distribution will handle the film in Ireland, with an Irish and International release date expected for Autumn 2019.
