The Irish Film Board has announced the successful applicants for development, production and distribution funding for the first quarter of this year, with a total of just over €3.2M allocated. This does not include the €3.7 million in quantified offers that were not originally included in the report.
The most significant sum of this round goes to writer/directors Mike Ahern & Enda Loughman in the form of €750,000 for ‘Extra Ordinary’, with Blinder Films producing.
Production Loans
Fiction Feature Films
Two project were awarded six-figure sums in the fiction feature film category. This included Mark O’Halloran’s ‘Trade/Rialto’ being produced by Marcie Films (€100,000) and Cartoon Saloons ‘Puffin Rock’ (€250,000). Ian Fitzgibbons’ ‘Dark Lies the Island’ was also award €7,500.
Fiction Creative Co-Production
Both Subotica and Element Pictures were awarded €250,000 respectively for their upcoming projects. Nick Rowland & Joe Murtagh’s ‘Calm with the Horses’ being produced by Element, and Kristin Levering & Anders Thomas Jensen’s ‘Amerika’, which is produced by Subotica.
Animation Television Production
Four production companies were awarded six-figure sums in the Animated Television Production category. These included Pink Kong Studios’ ‘Urban Tails’(€200,000), Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Dorg Vandango’(€250,000), Kavaleer Productions’ ‘Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese’ (€100,000) , and Igloo Productions’ ‘The Lost Letter’ (€150,000). Ink & Light’s ‘Hopscotch & the Christmas Tree’ was also awarded €30,000.
Documentary Production
Two production companies were awarded six-figure sums in the Documentary Production. Real Films’ ‘Gaza: Out of the Ordinary’ was awarded €100,000, while Marcie Films’ Screamers’ was awarded €125,000. Blinder Films’ ‘PJ Harvey: Staring Through the Glass’ was awarded €10,000.
Additional Production
Fastnet Docs Ltd. Were awarded €50,000 for Ciaran Cassidy’s ‘Jihad Jane’.
Cine4
Two projects were awarded funding decisions of €300,000 under the new ‘Cine4’ banner. These two projects are: Abu Media’s ‘Finky’ - written and directed by Dathai Keane, and co-written by Diarmuid de Faoite, and Macalla Teo’s ‘Arracht’ written & directed by Tom O’Sullivan.

Five projects were awarded over €500,000 including: Fastnet Films' 'Send In The Clowns' (€750,000), Samson Films' 'WildFire' €550,000 + Female Fund €100,000), Parallel Film Productions' 'Borderland' (€900,000), Tailored Films' 'Winter Lake' (€600,000), Playground Pictures' 'Dead Happy' (€600,000 + Female Fund €100,000).
