The brand new and exclusive 3-part series for Channel 4 by Irish production company Big Mountain Productions, sees ‘Father Ted’ comic actor Ardal O'Hanlon, explore the Emerald Isle and Irish life as he goes off the beaten track around his beloved homeland.
Using a series of Victorian guidebooks written by Mr and Mrs SC Hall to tempt the English over to Ireland, Ardal roams from small towns to idiosyncratic attractions, detours from pulpit to pub, and rejoices in the unique festivities and characters you can only find in Ireland.
What you can expect to see in the series will be everything from famous Irish superstitions to embracing traditions of the past with a group of Irish Travellers and finding the tale behind how they Irish became such great storytellers.
Filmed in various locations across the country from Co. Louth to Cork and Derry, the three shows will follow Ardal O'Hanlon as he unearths and reveals an Ireland you could only know by having grown up there.
In the opening episode to the series, Ardal looks at Irish stereotypes and issues around belief. From fairies and leprechauns to ghost hunting, tidy towns, and the Church, Ardal is determined to find out if the people of Ireland are predisposed to faith.
The Production Company for the series is Big Mountain Productions; Series Producer/Director is Christopher Bruce and Executive Producers are Jane Kelly and Philip McGovern.
The first episode of ‘Ireland with Ardal O'Hanlon’ will air on Wednesday 14th December at 9pm on More 4.
