Irish actor Darragh O’Toole who features in the upcoming ‘A Date for Mad Mary’ features in a promotional campaign to support film and TV production in his home county.
O’Toole is best known as Conor Tyrell from TV3 drama ‘Red Rock’ and Shane in Mike Hayes’ ‘Toy Soldiers’, which boasts a Short Film Award at the 2012 Galway Film Fleadh.
Bob Gallagher directs the short film, accredited to both the Offaly Film Commission, which was launched in 2008 as a project of the Offaly County Council.
O’Toole shows the diversity of the county in various locations throughout the one-minute footage, noting its abundancy of stately homes, woodland areas, waterways and convenience to major airports and other infrastructures.
Well-known productions from Offaly include the IFTA-winning ‘Pure Mule’ directed by Charlie McCarthy and Declan Recks (The Flag, The Truth Commissioner). Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘The Garage’ starring Pat Shortt was also shot in the central county, as well as Dublin, Galway and Tipperary.
