Brendan O’Carroll won Best Comedy Performance at the Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards on Tuesday night in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
The creator and star of ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ beat off stiff competition from Rebecca Front (Psychobitches) and Ryan Sampson (Plebs). ‘Peaky Blinders’, which stars Cillian Murphy, won for Best Drama Series while ‘Game of Thrones’ picked up the award for Best International Programme.
Olivia Colman won Best Actress for ‘Broadchurch’, a Kudos production for ITV, which also won Best Drama Serial at the awards.
The awards were announced at a ceremony hosted by comedian Tim Vine. Other winners on the night included Stephen Fry for Best Presenter, ‘Coronation Street’ for Best Soap and Continuing Drama, ‘The Last Leg’ for Best Entertainment Programme and Idris Elba for Best Actor in ‘Luther’.
O’Carroll recently filmed the live-action movie spin-off ‘Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie’ and a cartoon version of the hit series is set to go into production this summer. The new series will be made by Powerhouse Animation, the production company who created the animated titles seen in the main BBC show.
