‘Lads mar Dads’ is a new TG4 series, co-funded by the BAI and TG4, for Good Company Productions. Directed by Evan Chamberlain (Feirm Factor, Hector Goes), the series will air every Sunday night at 9.30 for six weeks, starting February 16th.
The half hour new format takes a look at what fatherhood is really like for the first timers in Ireland today. Each week various experts discuss all things Daddy and baby, while following how the new fathers cope with change.
Filming takes place in Donegal with first-time father Kevin Ferry, in Wexford with Richie Ó hEadhra, and in Ballincollig, Co. Cork, where Mícheál Ó Draighneáin is expecting triplets.
Director of photography is Ross O’Callaghan (Grand Designs, Rubberbandits); John Lowry (Hostile Environments, Pitch Perfect) is on sound, while the series is offline edited by Cóilín Ó Cearbhaill and graded by Cillian Duffy and Eugene McCrystal of EMC.
Well known dads Nicky Byrne, Ray d’Arcy, Hector and Dara Ó Cinnéide feature in the documentary series to give their advice on parenthood.
Other participants include Doctors Barbara Kearns and Emma Kilgarriff, Social Worker Julie O’Donnell and Psychologist Louise Pembroke all offering valuable advice to the new fathers.
‘Lads mar Dads’ begins this Sunday at the primetime slot of 9.30pm for six weeks. It will go up against the new RTÉ series ‘Quirke’, starring Gabriel Byrne.
