Wexford actress Charlie Murphy - fresh from another powerful performance as Siobhán in season four of ‘Love/Hate’ - will star in tonight’s episode of ‘Ripper Street’ in a plot that delves into the Irish Republican Brotherhood and Irish community in London.
Ms Murphy plays a character named Evelyn, believed to be the daughter of an Irish dynamiter who escapes from his prison wagon and targets an MP opposed to Home Rule in Ireland.
‘Ripper Street’, which was filmed in Dublin’s Clancy Barracks and on location in the city, wrapped shooting on its second season in August and will form the subject of an IFTA-hosted discussion with the production team later on 26th November.
A co-production between Dublin’s Element Pictures and Tiger Aspect Productions, the series has employed several key Irish crew members including make-up artists Sharon Doyle and Eileen Buggy; costume designer Lorna Marie Mugan and editor Helen Chapman.
Irish regulars Charlene McKenna and David Wilmot have also been joined by Martin McCann and Kildare actor Damien Molony as Detective Constable Albert Flight in the second season.
Charlie Murphy - who won this year’s Best Actress IFTA for ‘Love/Hate’ - has also enjoyed success recently in BBC’s ‘The Village’ and Stephen Frears’ ‘Philomena’, in which she plays another young woman forced by the nuns to give her child up for adoption.
Ms Murphy will next be seen in ‘Quirke’, set to air on RTÉ and BBC in the New Year, opposite Gabriel Byrne as the titular character of Dublin’s chief pathologist investigating a series of deaths in the 1950s.
