TG4 series ‘Crisis Eile’ returns to our screens tomorrow night, with Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh starring in her first TV drama role.
The political comedy, which follows on from ‘An Crisis’, sees Ní Chofaigh play Maeve Kelly, the newly-appointed EU Commissioner for Culture, Heritage, Multilingualism and Climate Action.
An outspoken and gaff-prone character, we meet Maeve Kelly just as she’s been sidelined to Europe by the Taoiseach. Still angry with her colleagues in Leinster House, she is determined to be the greatest EU commissioner ever, an ambition which leads to conflict with her boss, the EU Commission President.
Among her many fall outs with public figures, including the CEO of a well-known airline, Kelly also becomes embroiled in controversies relating to the Eurovision Song Contest and the British Bacon Roly Poly.
Director Charlie McCarthy returns to the director’s seat for season two, working from a script by Antoine Ó Flatharta. Martha O’Neill produced for Wildfire Films.
Cast members reprising their roles include Norma Sheahan (Moone Boy), Conor MacNeill (Saving the Titanic) and Donncha Crowley (The Runway).
Denis Conway, Brian de Salvo, Frankie McCafferty, Michelle Beamish, Marcus Seoighe, Helen Morton, Mark Lambert, Jamie O’Neill, Paul Tylak, Fionnuala Gynax and Moe Dunford also feature.
‘Crisis Eile’ filmed in both Dublin and Brussels in 2012, and received funding from the BAI Sound and Vision scheme as well as TG4.
See Ní Chofaigh in her first major acting role when the series returns to TG4 on Wednesday, January 16 at 10pm.
