The 2013 Reel Art scheme is accepting applications for its art film funding initiative until Tuesday October 16.
Launched in 2008, the scheme offers grants of up to €80,000 to develop creative, imaginative and experimental documentaries on an artistic theme. The scheme is in association with Filmbase and the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, where the two chosen films will premiere in 2014.
The Arts Council’s aim is to help develop art films it feels would not otherwise get made. A key aim of the scheme is to compliment, rather than replicate, the documentary and other funding programmes offered by the Arts Council, broadcasters and funding agencies in Ireland.
Film artists interested in applying for Reel Art are invited to attend an information session on the scheme at the Central Hotel on Exchequer Street on Wednesday September 19 at 3.30pm. Those interested in attending must register with Reel Art.
Previous recipients of the Reel Art grant include director Oonagh Kearney and producer John Kelleher for their documentary ‘Wonder House’ (Teach Ionadh), which explores the role of objects in the human creative process by inviting Irish scientists to discuss the childhood objects that sparked their imaginations. Other recipients include Julius Ziz and Donal O Ceilleachair for ‘Dreamtime Revisited’ and ‘The Far Side of Revenge’, directed by Margo Harkin. All three projects screened at the 2012 JDIFF.
