Irish actor Chris O’Dowd (Bridemaids, Moone Boy) has been confirmed to star opposite British actor Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Paul) in dance-comedy ‘Cuban Fury’.
The two funnymen will star as salsa rivals who come up against each other on the dancefloor. Frost will play a former teen salsa prodigy attempting a career comeback after his rival (O'Dowd) ruined his career.
The feature film will be produced by Britain’s Big Talk Productions, who have previously produced a number of projects featuring Frost including ‘Spaced’, ‘Shaun Of The Dead’, and ‘Hot Fuzz’. It will be written by Jon Brown (Misfits, Fresh Meat) and mark the directorial debut of James Griffiths (Up All Night). Rashida Jones (The Muppets) and Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz) will co-star with the shoot due to get underway in early July.
News of the role marks a busy couple of months for O’Dowd, who is currently in post-production on the semi-autobiographical Sky One comedy series ‘Moone Boy’ which will air this September.
The Roscommon-born actor will next be seen in Australian musical ‘The Sapphires’, which will receive its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. He has also completed work on US director Judd Apatow’s forthcoming ‘Kocked-up’ sequel, ‘This Is 40’.
O’Dowd is also signed up to take a supporting role in ‘Calvary,’ director John Michael McDonagh’s next project following the success of ‘The Guard.’
