A number of Irish projects walked away with Torc Awards at the Celtic Media Festival (13 – 15 April). Irish talent topped the annual festival’s list of honours across feature film, television and short categories.
In television genre, Irish projects received five Celtic Torcs including Factual Series Abu Media/TG4’s ‘1916 – Seachtar na Casca’; Orsuco /RTE’s ‘Vincent O’Brien The Master’ took the award for Sport; Drama Series honours went to ROSG/TG4’s Na Cloigne; ‘Teens in the Wild’ from Firebrand/RTE received the Torc for Education and ‘Spotlight-The Iris Robinson Investigation’ from BBC NI picked up the honours for Current Affairs.
Documentary feature ‘The Pipe’, from Scannáin Inbhear/TG4, won the Factual Single award and Ian Power’s feature film ‘The Runway’ picked up the Torc for Feature Length Drama. Wildfire Films/RTÉ short film ‘Deep End Dance’ won the award for Short Drama.
Where short projects are concerned NFS graduates, John Walsh, Tommy Fitzpatrick and Cathy Brady nabbed animation and fiction prizes with their respective graduation projects, 'Whatever Happened to Ultra Man?' and 'Small Change'.
The Celtic Media Festival is an annual celebration of the best of film, television, radio and digital media from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany and the Isle of Man and promotes the richness of Celtic heritage, language and culture. Out of 21 screen & radio categories Irish projects were named winners in 10. This year’s event took place in the Western Isles of Scotland.
