Marian Quinn’s ‘32a’ and feature doc ‘Saviours’ are among the Irish titles that will screen at the upcoming 6th Annual San Francisco Irish Film Festival taking place on March 5th & 6th in the Roxie Theatre, San Francisco.
Opening the festival, is the screening of the mockumentary ‘Hardy Bucks’ by Chris Tordoff and Martin Maloney. The film follows the lives of Buzz and Eddie, as they face the travails of life in the fictional hamlet of Castletown (aka Swinford).
The IFTA nominated feature doc ‘Saviours’ following three aspiring boxers from the same Dublin boxing club, St. Saviours Olympic Boxing Academy will also screen. Directed by Liam Nolan and Ross Whitaker the film was one of the few documentaries to have a general release in Ireland last year. The screening will be followed by a reception hosted by the Consulate General of Ireland.
Marian Quinn’s coming of age drama ‘32a’ set in 1970s Dublin will be shown on Friday 6th. The film’s DOP PJ Dillon recently won Best Cinematography Award at the IFTA Awards and the film was winner of the Best First Feature Award at the 2007 Galway Film Fleadh.
The festival will also host the ‘Magners ‘n’ Shorts’ program which will have line up including; the Oscar nominated “New Boy” by Steph Green, Alan Brennan’s horror ‘Shapes’, ‘God and Napoleon’, ‘The Wednesdays’, Hugh O'Conor’s ‘Spacemen Three’, animated short ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Atlantic’ starring Liam Cunningham.
