Venom Showcase Films At IFI

Undressing My Mother
Ireland on Sunday, the monthly showcase for new Irish fiction and documentary at the Irish Film Institute, will screen the films of Ken Wardrop and producer Andrew Freedman of Venom Films this Sunday September 7th at 1.30pm.

The presentation: ‘Venom Films Programme of Shorts’ will screen eleven short films from the company that charts the creative partnership between Wardrop and Freeman from their attendance as students at the National Film School in Dun Laoghaire.

Their body of work, both fictional and factional includes among other titles the IFTA winning ‘Undressing My Mother’ (2004), the Channel 4-commissioned ‘Farewell Packets of Ten’, 'Scoring' and ‘Tongue Tied’ as well as ‘Ouch!’, and their most recent film, ‘The Herd’.

Speaking about the special screening, the Irish Film Institute’s curator, Sunniva O’Flynn, said:

“We are very pleased to host this retrospective of the work of Ken Wardrop and Andrew Freedman. The programme demonstrates the extraordinary talent and versatility of these young film-makers and their mastery of the short film form. It will be fascinating to learn more about their creative process in the interactive arena of the Ireland on Sunday slot.”

The screening will be punctuated with insights from Ken and Andrew, who have seen their films selected for festivals across the globe including; Sundance, Rotterdam, Boston and Sapporo.

"Both Ken and I are delighted to be participating in the innovative new Ireland on Sunday programme at the IFI,” said producer Andrew Freedman. “As aspiring filmmakers we have always valued working within the short film format and its importance as a genre. This is an exciting occasion to showcase the short films we’ve enjoyed making together since we started out at the National Film School, IADT in 2001.”

Ken and Andrew are currently in production on the creative documentary, ‘One Hundred to One Outsiders’ which began filming on August 4th for three months. The film based on a traditional love story is being shot in various locations around the midlands.
