Corona Cork Film Fest at Clermont-Ferrand
06 Feb 2008 :
The Wednesdays
The Corona Cork Film Festival is set to host an Irish stand for the promotion of home grown Irish short films at the Clermont-Ferrand Short film market, which takes place from 1st-9th February 2008.

The initiative has been supported by Culture Ireland with the aim of promoting new quality Irish shorts. This year, Conor Ferguson¹s IFTA nominated short ‘The Wednesdays’ will compete in the International shorts category, while Ken Wardrop¹s ‘Useless Dog’ will play in the Panorama programme entitled ‘In Dog We Trust’.

The Corona Cork Film Festival has curated and produced a promotional DVD collection of thirteen new Irish short films which will be distributed to festival directors, programmers, cultural institutions and buyers of short films. Irish shorts on the DVD include Jane Lee’s ‘Revelations’, Steph Green’s IFTA nominated ‘New Boy’, Keith Mannix’s ‘Death in the West’ and Darren Thornton’s ‘Frankie’.

Clermont-Ferrand, often considered the Cannes of the short film world, is attended by programmers of the major short film festivals, by short film agencies, by buyers and distributors.

“Cork has had a long association with the Clermont-Ferrand festival since we advised on the first major International retrospective of Irish short films in 1996,” said festival Director Mick Hannigan. “This work is a development of the promotional and advocacy work Cork has being doing for many years - advising on and curating Irish short film programmes for international festivals, brokering a Ken Wardrop retrospective at the Nordisk Panorama and so forth.”

CFF will also create an Irish ‘shop-front’ Market Stand, providing information, materials and DVD¹s produced by Irish filmmakers, institutions, colleges and production houses and will provide support at the Market for Irish organisations and Irish filmmakers attending the 2008 Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival.
