The Irish Film Institute, the national body for the promotion and preservation of film culture in Ireland, is seeking applications from prospective candidates for the position of Director. After nearly seven years as Director, Mark Mulqueen is moving to the Oireachtas as Head of Communications.
Speaking about Mulqueen’s departure, Eve-Anne Cullinan, Chairman of the Irish Film Institute said: “The IFI has been greatly developed in recent years under Mark’s direction. Mark brought a strategic perspective to the role of Director and leaves it primed for some interesting future plans, particularly in the areas of IFI Archive and IFI film centre facilities.”
The hunt now begins for the new Director of the IFI.
The IFI is a dynamic, multi-faceted institute with an annual audience of 300,000 people. The institute operates the IFI Centre and Cinemas, the Irish Film Archive, a nationwide Film Education Programme as well as a range of specialist film festivals in Ireland and worldwide. The National Cinemobile (a travelling cinema) is also part of the IFI.
The Director is responsible for the strategic development of the Institute; leading a team of 60 staff to deliver this broad programme of activity and directing the day-to-day operation of the IFI.
Qualities required of candidates include-
A broad knowledge of film culture
Proven experience of strategic leadership
At least 3 years senior arts management experience
Insight of the Irish arts sector
Excellent interpersonal skills
Sound financial acumen
Experience of securing both public and private sector funding
