Connect-World is set to host two workshops on Tuesday 18th September at the Mercer Hotel, Dublin, in order to assist applicants for the Simon Cumbers Media Challenge Fund with their applications. The workshops will introduce participants to a range of development issues and provide information on how to make an application for funding.
Funded by Irish Aid and run by Connect-World, this grant scheme is aimed at assisting and promoting more and better quality media coverage of development issues in the Irish media.
The Simon Cumbers Media Challenge Fund was set up in 2005 in memory of Navan-born journalist and cameraman Simon Cumbers, who was murdered by terrorist gunmen while filming a report for BBC News in Saudi Arabia in June 2004. He was 36 years old. Connect-World took over the management of this fund in October 2006.
The first workshop will deal with the Standard Grant, while the second covering the TV Seed Production Grant. A buffet lunch will be served in between.

Individual grants will typically not exceed €10,000 (Standard Grant) and €30,000 (TV Production Seed Grant). Successful applicants will be paid 80% when the grant is awarded and 20% on the basis of a full commission by a broadcaster within Ireland (Standard Grant) or on submission of a narrative and financial report (TV Seed Grant).
