Lucas Films and Twentieth Century Fox have announced that STAR WARS: EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES will be premiered in Ireland on Wednesday 15th May in Dublin to benefit UNICEF Ireland.
Director George Lucas and producer Rick McCallum are delighted to provide the film to support the excellent work of UNICEF. Mr Lucas was also involved in the Movie Action for Children initiative last year, which was spearheaded by Liam Neeson, Special Patron for UNICEF Ireland to raise funds for the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV in Africa. The funds raised from this years' premiere will continue to provide for these programmes in Zambia.
Speaking at the announcement of the Irish premiere, Maura Quinn, Executive Director of UNICEF Ireland said, "we are delighted that UNICEF Ireland is the beneficial charity and we are honoured that our work to help prevent babies being born with the HIV virus is being recognised in this way. Liam Neeson, who stared in Episode I initially secured the first Premiere for us, and we are thrilled that George Lucas has agreed to support us once again."
STAR WARS: EPISODE II is scheduled for release in the United States on 15th May and is scheduled to open at cinemas across Ireland on May 16th 2002. The Irish Premiere will be held at the Savoy Cinema on 15th May, followed by a Post-Premiere Party at the Four Seasons.
