A 4 hour epic from Picture Palace and BBC Northern Ireland, shot on location in the Irish Republic. It tells of one young man's coming of age during the tumultuous years from 1916-1922 in Ireland.
Ernie Coyle (James D'Arcy) is an idealistic 18 year-old who signs up to fight for an independent Ireland in the doomed Easter Rising but who ultimately finds his loyalties divided between the man he believes in and Ita (Paloma Baeza) the woman he loves.
Starring James D'Arcy, Paloma Baeza, Bill Paterson, Brendan Coyle and Vincent Regan. Written by Ronan Bennett (Love Lies Bleeding) and directed by John Strickland (Clocking Off, Undercover Heart).
Rebel Heart will be broadcast on January 7th 2000 on BBC1.
Screen Training Ireland are running a one day Television Script Development Workshop with Malcolm Craddock (producer of Rebel Heart Picture Palace Ltd) and Ronan Bennett (writer of Rebel Heart BBC Northern Ireland script editor, development staff ) on 10 February.
