On Wednesday Reuters Group Plc., the world's largest financial information provider, said it will cut about 5% of its U.K. and Ireland work force, including 30 in its London TV newsroom, in a bid to control cost as it restructures.
The company will cut just under 100 of the company's 2,100-person staff, by replacing travelling support staff with phone services for smaller clients, and cutting TV jobs as the company relies more on computers.
The company said last month that it will use computer servers instead of videotapes. More TV-related jobs are expected to be cut, yet those details won't be known until next month, when the company reveals plans to open TV newsrooms in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Stockholm, Sweden; Vienna, Austria; and Warsaw, Poland.
