Irish actor Stephen Rea (The Crying Game, V For Vendetta) will be in Monaghan next week to open the Clones Film Festival (26 – 30 October). The 2005 programme promises a host of international features, Irish premieres, shorts and documentaries.
Established in 2001, the Clones Film Festival has steadily grown to become one of the most popular film festivals in the northern counties. Organised by Lmb Entertainments, this year's festival is artistically directed by Harry Cleary, who has chosen a programme that is as diverse as it is entertaining.
Stephen Rea will officially open the festival on Wednesday the 26th of October and introduce the Irish language short film, ‘Fluent Dysphasia’, in which he stars.
The festival will also host the Irish premiere of the feature film ‘The Buck Rules’ from debut UK writer/director Sam Lennox. Starring Monaghan born Irish actor Declan Reynolds (Hill 16), ‘The Buck Rules’ is a black comedy about five failures trying to keep their movie obsessed lifestyle on track in the face of impossible odds.
Other festival highlights include Vinny Cunningham’s documentary ‘Battle of The Bogside’ which picked up the Best Documentary IFTA in 2004. Other much anticipated documentaries include the Sundance favourite ‘Dig’, Mark Cahbar & Jennifer Abbott’s ‘The Corporation’, ‘End of The Century: The Ramones’ and the hip-hopumentary ‘Biggie N Tupac’.
Foreign films not to be missed include Hans Weingartner’s ‘The Educators’; Christophe Barraiter’s Academy Award nominated ‘Les Choristes’ and Andrès Wood’s ‘Manchua’, with home grown talent on display from Kevin Marrion’s feature film ‘No White Knight’ and Colum Stapleton’s documentary ‘Empire of Juramidam’.
