Clare is situated in the south west of the country, and contains a richly textured variety of landscapes, from the jagged coastline of the Burren to the Shannon estuary area. County Clare has a population of approximately over 90,000 poeple, and it covers a land area of approximately 1251 square miles or 3,238 square kilometres. Throughout the county are some 2,300 stone forts dating back to pre-Celtic times. There are also hundreds of castles scattered about the countryside. |
