Dublin-based production company Keeper Pictures is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic full-time Development Assistant to join our team. Keeper Pictures is one of Ireland’s leading production companies, working across feature films and television drama. Recent productions include Damian McCarthy’s ODDITY which won the Audience Award at SXSW’s Midnighter section and will be released theatrically by IFC Films in July. Claire Dix’s debut feature SUNLIGHT, written by Ailbhe Keogan and produced by Roisin Geraghty which premiered at Dublin International Film Festival and Glasgow Film Festival and was released in June 2023. THE GONE, a 6 X 1 hour crime drama which aired on RTÉ in 2023 and is currently in production on a second series. Nick Pesce’s VISITATION for eOne with Rumble Films, starring Olivia Cooke, Isla Johnston, Olivia Williams, Penelope Wilton, Stephen Rea and Alfie Allen. 

The Development Assistant will work creatively on the current development slate of projects (TV Drama and Film) and also assist in the management of the admin, and standard finance and legals on each project, so strong organisational skills are required. The Development Assistant will also be responsible for sourcing new material for development for feature film and television drama projects, for consideration by the Producers.

Responsibilities include:

Submissions
Managing script submissions by logging material, reading and offering feedback on scripts, and leading a fortnightly Submissions Meeting to ensure everything gets read and responded to in a timely manner.

Administration
Diary Management including scheduling meetings and calls both internally and externally and ensuring deadlines such as funding applications, entry for scripts labs/competitions/festivals, and option expiries are in the calendar. Maintaining several databases and contact lists.

Meetings
Scheduling, preparing agendas, prepping for, attending, contributing to and taking notes in weekly development meetings, submissions meeting, project meetings and general meetings with writers, directors and agents. Assisting in writers’ rooms and helping to organising travel, accommodation etc for writers’ rooms.

Slate
Assisting in the day-to-day running of the development slate of projects by reading materials and giving written and verbal feedback to writers, saving project materials on the server, assisting in creating writer/director lists and tracking the progress of projects. Working on drafting and editing strong treatments, synopsis, pitch decks etc.

Scouting
Sourcing new projects and talent for the slate by attending theatre, festivals, screenings, and being on the pulse with new podcasts and relevant news items. Liaising with our book scout and attending meetings with them to discuss new titles, read books and enquire about screen rights. The ideal candidate will have a drive and ambition to build their own network of contacts with talent and agents.

Research
Completing project-specific research when requested but also pro-actively looking at industry trade news, and sending the team a weekly round-up of relevant new TV film news/commissions/announcements.

Funding
Assisting in the preparation of development funding applications, managing contracting and ensuring subsequent delivery of materials for the likes of Screen Ireland or Creative Europe. Updating development project budgets and working with Office Manager to ensure up to date development accounts, ensuring invoices are settled, etc.

The successful candidate:

  • Must care deeply about making impactful and entertaining film and television and be an avid viewer of all kinds of culture. 
  • Must possess a passion for creative excellence as well as an efficient and organized personality with the ability to turn ideas into action.
  • Will be enthusiastic about creating new systems and ways to improve workflow.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of Excel, Final Draft, Canva etc.
  • Must have some experience in script development including but not limited to coverage, script feedback and development notes.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and is a resourceful self-starter with an independent attitude.
  • Will have great attention to detail while still meeting tight deadlines and can switch gears and manage a variable workload.
  • Will have a commitment to Diversity and Inclusion within the Screen Sector.
