This course is aimed at television writers seeking to enhance their skills in writing popular television drama.

This course is for Riggers, Stagehands, Prop Masters, Painters, Plasterers, Carpenters, Electricians and anyone in film and television production who requires Safepass training.

This practical, hands-on course aims to upskill production personnel in the areas of shooting and editing, as well as the data management steps associated with these areas. No prior knowledge is assumed, but it will be a fast paced, intense course with a steep learning curve.

Days One and Two:
Data Management for camera/audio from set to pre post
A group of eight participants will spend two days being tutored by a camera person who shoots for Lifestyle/Entertainment TV. Participants will be shown the following:
An overview of data wrangling on set from data acquisition to location storage to back-up and duplication to tranfer to base and storage pre- post.

• An overview of the equipment required for a digital selfshooter (camera, audio, drives, laptop etc)
• How to set up the PMW200
• A brief summary of technical terms.
• Understanding focus/exposure/ ISO
• Lighting interviews
• Audio techniques
• Different cameras & their specs & limitations
• Using radio mics
• Using other audio equipment such as rifle mics and zooms
• Comparing types of audio from different equipment

Day Three: Shoot & Data Wrangling in Post
Participants will have to shoot a short lifestyle piece. The footage will then be critiqued. In the afternoon, a data management expert will give a masterclass to consolidate material covered and delve into more detail on certain aspects.
Areas covered on this day will include:

• How to shoot a piece solo
• Acquiring the correct coverage
• Summarising data wrangling from data acquisition to storage to pre-post
• Overview of the post workflow
• Compression & codecs
• Storage options
• TX Delivery

Day Four: Editing
Participants will be introduced to the Final Cut Pro interface. They will be guided by an Editor and an Assistant Editor. The following will be demonstrated:

• Importing footage from the cameras
• Creating a workflow for your footage
• Setting up a project in Final Cut Pro
• Creating a basic rough cut
• Logging footage
• How to deliver your footage for RTÉ/TG4 and Webstreaming.

On completion of this training programme attendees will have an understanding of the kinetics of lifting, understand the risk of poor manual handling techniques and understand the importance of manual handling risk assessments.

Screen Training Ireland and Galway Film Centre are seeking participants for a two-day Directing Workshop with Dearbhla Walsh.

This workshop aims to strengthen participants’ drama directing skills. As well as getting an insight into Dearbhla’s approach to directing, participants will also work in small groups to direct scenes with actors. This workshop is limited to eight participants. Areas covered will include:

• How to guide an actor's performance on the set
• Spatial visualization of the scene
• Blocking scenes –The camera as the 3rd character
• How to communicate your vision
• Dealing with particularly difficult scenes e.g. love and violence.

Theater on September 19th to 21st. The festival presents the very best in contemporary Irish cinema, celebrating everything from features to documentaries to Irish language films (with English subtitles for those who didn’t spend a summer at a Gaeltacht). The Irish are notorious for story telling, and the Irish Short film has rapidly become an art form in Ireland. Screen Training Ireland and Galway Film Centre are seeking participants for a practical two-day workshop with director Dearbhla Walsh and casting director Maureen Hughes on Approaching Auditions. Participants on this workshop are required to attend the half-day Approaching Auditions Seminar on the previous day. Successful applicants will submit an audition piece prior to course commencement.

The objective of this call for proposals is to try out innovative strategies for the provision of subtitled versions of European cultural programming to facilitate cross-border online dissemination of cultural content.

Specifically, the expected outcome of this pilot is the provision of a minimum of 600 hours of diverse, European-subtitled factual audiovisual content, online, in several territories, as well as assessing the subsequent impact of this content.
