This intensive, project-based, development programme is aimed at screenwriters and creative teams behind first and second-time Feature Films. Participants should have a strong film project ready to progress from outline to first draft, or from first to revised draft. Eight projects will be chosen to take part. Following the opening workshops on the craft of screenwriting, participants will then have one-on-one input and guidance on their own scripts.

In this one-day masterclass in association with the Galway Film Centre, good factual commentary writing is explored structurally: not just as a practical how-to, but also as a key component of film language, as integral to story-telling as good directing, good interviews and good music.
The course is discursive and interactive bringing together history, criticism, producers’ responsibilities, influences and resources with a wealth of clips and examples. It is ideal if you find commentary writing tough and unrewarding. It also provides insights into why some commentary works while some doesn’t.

This masterclass is tutored by UK executive producer, Patrick Uden, who is called on by broadcasters and indies to hone and tighten the commentary on their key series.
