Stephen Murphy ISC BSC
Stephen Murphy has become the fifth Irish Cinematographer to be invited to join the prestigious British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) following Seamus McGarvey, Robbie Ryan, Kieran McGuigan and Suzie Lavelle.

He was inducted into the society at their annual event last week.

Speaking about the honour, Murphy told IFTN:

“I’m incredibly proud to join the ranks of the British Society of Cinematographers. The BSC has always represented and encouraged the highest possible standards in the craft of Cinematography so to be counted amongst its members is truly an honor.”

Signed with Worldwide Production Agency, Stephen's recent credits include the second series of

Amazon's Hanna, HBO's “Years and Years” and the three-part BBC drama Death and Nightingales. Stephen also lensed two seasons of the BAFTA-nominated drama Line of Duty.

This week, Stephen was also invited to join his peers as a member of the Irish Society of Cinematographers.

Stephen Murphy attended the Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design in Ireland, from 1995-1997 where he originally trained to be a Make-up artist. While attending his first year of studies he found time to join the Miniature FX unit on the film Space Truckers. He would then carry on working on several productions designing and sculpting Prosthetic makeups.

Immediately after graduating, Stephen took a six-week Film Production course at Ardmore studios in Bray and discovered a talent for Cinematography and a love for 35mm film. He then spent several years working through the ranks of the camera department in the traditional way notching operating credits on Hunger, Maleficent & The Guard amongst many others.
