National Day of Solidarity in New York City |
|
Last week, The Writers Guild of America and the AMPTP met, following which the WGA announced to its members that talks would resume this week. Talks have not resumed and the strike is now in its 113th day.
The AMPTP and WGA have not returned to the negotiating table, and today the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are holding a series of strikes across the US in a National Day of Solidarity. Locations include Disney Studios in Burbank, California, Amazon HQ in New York, as well as Chicago, Philadelphia, and Atlanta.
The WGA strike has been ongoing since May 2nd 2023. Since then, the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers did not meet for more than three months, until 102 days into the strike (August 11th, 2023).
The key issues that the WGA are seeking are in relation to viewership-based streaming residuals, the preservation of the writers room, and protection from encroaching technologies, namely AI.
