Derry Girls
The shortlist is voted for by over 150 industry professionals and sees a host of Irish talent recognised this year. The 18th year of the Awards take place in August during the Edinburgh TV Festival, hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan.

Hat Trick Productions’ and Lisa McGee’s hit comedy series ‘Derry Girls’ continues to impress with a nomination for Best Comedy Series. The nomination comes after the first season of the show won the award at 2018 ceremony. Star of the series, Saoirse Monica Jackson, has also been shortlisted in the Best Breakthrough Talent category.

Elsewhere, Sharon Horgan’s production company Merman has been shortlisted for Production Company of the Year. The production company award is given to an independent company with an annual turnover of over £5M that could be a specialist at the top of their game. Alternatively, it is given to a company that has produced a range of top-quality content for a number of different channels.

Horgan, who co-founded the London-based company, produced the final season of her successful television series ‘Catastrophe’ this year. Merman also co-produces the current HBO series ‘Divorce’, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church.

On the entertainment side of the short-list, Irish producer Aoife Bower was shortlisted as a part of ‘The Big Narstie Show’ production team, which has been shortlisted for Best Entertainment Series. The show also received a nomination at the 2019 BAFTA TV Awards in May.

CEO and Festival Director, Lisa Campbell, said:

“Our new categories reflect the rise of start-up and smaller indies and the increasing importance of online content. Meanwhile, the competition is tougher than ever in the programme categories with some of the biggest, beautifully-crafted, talked-about shows of the year battling it out. Good luck to all our nominees!”

Other key highlights from the shortlist include Award-winning actor, director, singer, musician, screenwriter and author, Hugh Laurie receiving the Edinburgh TV Festival’s Outstanding Achievement Award. Additionally, the coveted Channel of the Year gong will be contested by BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, who won the award in 2018.
