Andrew Scott receives Actor of the Year at London Critics’ Circle Awards
06 Feb 2024 : News Desk
Paul Mescal & Andrew Scott
Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers, starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, and Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, led the 44th annual London Critics’ Circle Awards with three wins each.

Andrew Scott was recognised for his lead performance in All of Us Strangers with the Actor of the Year award. The Andrew Haigh film recently reached the top of the Irish box office, which Scott highlighted in his acceptance speech, stating “For a gay love story, it ain’t nothing. Don’t say those films don’t make money”.

His co-star Paul Mescal received the British/Irish Performer of the Year award, which recognised his body of work over the past 12 months, including his performances in All of Us Strangers, God’s Creatures, Foe, and Carmen. All of Us Strangers also won the Attenborough Award for British/Irish film of the year.

The film follows screenwriter Adam (Scott) who, after a chance encounter with his neighbor Harry (Mescal), is pulled back to his childhood home where he discovers that his long-dead parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) are living and look the same age as the day they died.

IFTN caught up with director Haigh ahead of the film’s Irish gala screening in the Light House Cinema last month to discuss the film’s origins and its production.

Emma Stone was also recognised as Actress of the Year at the London award ceremony for her performance as Bella Baxter in the Element Pictures-produced film Poor Things.
