Cork International Film Festival appoints New Director of Programming
17 Apr 2024 : News Desk
Aurélie Godet
Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced the appointment of Aurélie Godet as its new Director of Programming.

Aurélie Godet brings a wealth of film and programming experience to her new role at CIFF with a track record across international film festivals including the Berlinale and Locarno Film Festival. Previously, she launched the first international film festival in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and was Deputy Director of Unifrance’s New York office. She is a member of the director’s advisory committee at Arte France Cinema and co-founded The Red Balloon Alliance, a collective of film professionals aiming for a better work-life balance. She commences her role with CIFF in April 2024.

As CIFF Director of Programming, Aurélie will help shape the future of the film festival, celebrating its 70th edition in 2025, and will lead in developing and delivering CIFF’s artistic policy and programming ambitions, and contribute to the ongoing strategic development of the festival.

CIFF Director & CEO Fiona Clark said: “We are delighted to welcome Aurélie Godet, a film professional of such high calibre, whose experience across international festivals and film projects will be a major asset for our Festival, for cultural Cork, and for the burgeoning Irish film sector, particularly as we plan an exciting programme to mark our milestone 70th edition in 2025. Aurélie will build on the Festival’s considerable achievements over recent years, and we extend our sincere thanks to our outgoing Director of Programming, Anna Kopecká, for her significant contribution to CIFF over the past four years and wish her every success with her future endeavours.”

Aurélie Godet commented: “The Cork International Film Festival is not only Ireland’s largest film event, it is one of the world’s longest-running festivals, with an immense legacy that we will honour in 2025 for CIFF’s 70th edition. Both anchored in the cultural city of Cork and facing the world, CIFF is proactive in creating spaces where vocations are born and where they are nurtured. A place where, if you love film, we make sure that you can share your passion. It’s a club that is open to all, and that you want to be part of. I wanted to be part of it. I am beyond thrilled to join this dynamic team as Director of Programming and look forward to welcoming Irish and international guests around a diverse and engaging programme of films.”

Aurélie Godet was a senior programmer at the Berlinale for the past five editions, working with artistic director Carlo Chatrian on the selection of feature films and documentaries for the festival’s main sections. She is a member of the director’s advisory committee at Arte France Cinema and, in 2019, co-founded The Red Balloon Alliance, a collective of film professionals aiming for a better work-life balance and helping festivals in the organisation of daycare services for film professionals.

From 2013 to 2019 she was a programmer at Locarno Film Festival, having joined the selection committee in 2013. In 2014 Aurélie contributed to launching the first international film festival in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She also worked as a programmer and moderator for French festivals 3 Continents and La Roche-sur-Yon.

Prior to this, Aurélie worked as a consultant for production companies and wrote for several publications, including Cahiers du Cinéma. After a start in film production in 2004 assisting filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, she was Deputy Director of Unifrance’s New York office, enabling her to contribute to the promotion of French cinema in the US and to collaborate with North American distributors and film festivals.

The 69th edition of Cork International Film Festival will take place Thursday 7th to Sunday 17th November 2024.
