James Flynn commenced his career in the Irish film industry with John Boorman’s Merlin Films International as Head of Development having previously worked for the Investment Bank of Ireland.
From 1993 to 1997, James worked as Business Manager of the fledgling Irish Film Board. His responsibilities involved the analysis of feature films and television drama projects for development and production finance loans. During his tenure at the Board, James represented Ireland on several occasions in Brussels at the Media2 Management Committee.
In July 1997, James along with Juanita Wilson established Metropolitan Film Productions Limited with the intention of making strong, independent and resonant films for the international market. In-house projects developed and produced by Metropolitan Films include H3 (2001) and Nora (2000).
James Flynn formed a strategic alliance with Morgan O’Sullivan in August 1998 and through this partnership, they both provided Executive/Co-Production services to incoming productions (see credits below).
James’ television credits include The Borgias Seasons 1-3, Vikings Seasons 1-4,Tudors Seasons 1-4, Camelot , Penny Dreadful 1-3, My Boy Jack, and Love/Hate Seasons 1-5. His other film credits include Inside I’m Dancing (2004), Ondine (2009), As If I Am Not There (2010) and Calvary (2014). He produced The Door in 2010 which received a 2010 Academy Award® nomination for Short film and executive produced the 2010 Academy Award® nominated animation feature The Secret Of Kells. In 2017 Metropolitan Films International released Daniel Woodrell’s Tomato Red, which was adapted for the screen and directed by Juanita Wilson.
