Long-term resident of Carrigmore Home for the Disabled, 24 year old Michael Connolly's (Steven Robertson) life is transformed when dynamic Rory O'Shea, (James McAvoy) a guy in a big hurry, moves into the room next door. Michael is stunned to discover that fast-talking Rory can understand his almost unintelligible speech and a friendship quickly forms between the two young men. Rory's rebellious nature inspires Michael to discover a whole new world outside of the walls of Carrigmore. When the two find a way to set up in a flat of their own, they recruit the headstrong and inexperienced Siobhán (Romola Garai) as their assistant. The two men’s growing feelings for Siobhán and their rivalry for her attention underscore their journey towards real independence and liberation.
