After leaving his bride-to-be at the altar, Artie, an ex con and sworn bachelor, decides to move into the big city to find his muse as a painter.
But shortly after taking a job at a prestigious art gallery, Artie violates his parole and switches a forgery he painted, for a masterpiece that's been sold to an "unworthy" customer. Around the same time, he meets Ruby, a beautiful single mother that lives in his apartment building - who also has a jaded past and a secret to keep. They are immediately drawn to one another, but have sworn off relationships. What ensues is a tale that can only be painted by numbers, as Artie and friends struggle to keep him out of jail, -- with relationships, careers, love, and what it means to be a 21st century man/woman.
