In 1994
Darragh O’Connell established Brown Bag Films with Cathal Gaffney and wrote and directed their first TV Series ‘Peig’ for RTE at the age of 21.
In December 2001 Darragh received awards from UCLA & Screen Training Ireland in ‘Scriptwriting for Animation’ and ‘The Fundamentals of Storytelling’. He has also lectured in business and finance for Film Base’s ‘Emerging Producers’ course and at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
Darragh produced ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’ which was nominated for an Oscar® at the 74th Academy Awards® in 2002. He directed six new episodes in the series, which went on to become the best selling video in Ireland for 2002. Darragh is currently supervising the development of a number of projects, including his first feature film. He directed the second series of ‘WHY?’ and produced the Irish instalment in the ‘Tales of the World’ series entitled ‘The Boy Who Had No Story’. Darragh also directed the animation for ‘Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show’ airing on primetime television on the WB Network in the USA. He has also just finished directing the first 24 episodes of I'm An Animal for Monster Distributes out of a series of 52 . Darragh is the animation director for Brown Bag Films and is the creative lead on all projects.
