Esposito is in Ireland filming a currently untitled project from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, directors of the two latest installments in the Scream franchise.
The actor of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame recently uploaded pictures on social media of his visit to Dublin in the run-up to filming, including visits to the Forty Foot and Trinity College Dublin. Speaking on social media he announced the following: “1st day on set for a new project coming up soon! Am I ready? You bet I am! More to come!”
Giancarlo Esposito joined the cast of the untitled monster thriller at Universal earlier this month. He joins the previously announced cast of Alisha Weir (Matilda the Musical), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Kevin Durand (I Am Number Four), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), Angus Cloud (Euphoria) and Will Catlett (A Thousand and One).
Speaking to KFTV, co-director Gillett confirmed the project was filming in Ireland, and actor Melissa Barrera said “We're going to be here for the next two months and it's so cool.”
Irish screenwriter Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground) wrote the screenplay, with revisions by Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Scream VI). Jay Polidoro, Holly Goline, Kelly Cannon and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.
While plot details are currently under wraps, the project was previously titled Dracula’s Daughter. The Hollywood Reporter described the project at this stage as being “centered on a group of kidnappers who abduct a band of young people”, one of which are revealed to be Dracula’s Daughter, and misery befalls upon the group.
It is currently unclear if the film has any connection to the 1936 Universal film Dracula’s Daughter. The studio have stated that this project will continue the “unique take[s] on legendary monster lore” that recent Universal films have explored, such as Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man and Renfield starring Nicolas Cage.
Weir is reported to be playing the kidnappee who is revealed to be more than she appears, with Barrera playing one of the kidnappers. Esposito’s role in the film is not yet clear.
Chad Villella, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein are producing for Radio Silence, and James Vanderbilt is producing for Project X Entertainment. Tripp Vinson is also producing.
