Italian production company, The DeAngelis Group (DAP) is currently in pre-production with a 12 x one hour drama series, ‘Titanic: The Untold Story of How it All Began’. Produced by Guido deAngelis (Ti Stramo, The Borgia) the series is set to shoot in Dublin this summer.
Conceived by Fabrizio Del Noce, the series recounts the story of the birth of the Titanic, going back to 1897 when construction of the luxury liner started. The 12 part drama is expected to shoot in Dublin in late July for approximately two months and is to be completed in 2012.
Casting for the drama series has just got underway and director, Ciarán Donnelly (The Tudors) explains to us that the series will take a specific angle on the well known tale: “We’ll be looking at the people who built the great ship and the world that they were living in,” he tells us. ”In quite a radical move we’re going to build the ship, not sink it!”
The IFTA winning director says he will be exploring the issues that workers in Belfast experienced at the time of building the ill-fated ship:”We’ll be looking at the struggle of Home Rule,” he explains. ”Along with the labour movement and the religious divide that was very present at the time.”
An Irish Film Board spokesperson tells us that the group initially provided “scout support” to ‘Titanic: The Untold Story of How it All Began’ at the request of then Irish co-producer, Paul Myler of Epos Films.
The group has not since received applications for either development or production funding from the producers of this project. Further cast and crew details will be announced on IFTN in due course, as will specific shoot dates.
