It's 1968. Maureen, a single mother hailing from Donegal, moves to the Bogside of Derry. She marries Barry, a decent though undomesticated sort, and soon realises with alarm, that her unglamorous lot is to consist of having babies, washing nappies and tending to the house. Since new age men have not been invented yet, Barry is unsurprisingly none too fond of talking about feelings and such. Maureen has two good female friends though, who'll listen and laugh and tell her about the rhythm method. Meanwhile, the political situation in Derry is about to go pop.
