Chicago Irish Film Festival Invites Entries for 2014 Event
Now in its 14th year, the Chicago Irish Film Festival has issued a call for submissions for their 2014 event, due to take place from February 28th - March 8th of next year.

Established to recognize Irish contribution to filmmaking, each year the festival commits itself to presenting new Irish productions in feature, short and documentary format alike in the name of giving way to fresh voices in the reflection of contemporary Irish society. Awards for short films specifically include the Audience Award, the Jury Award and the Consulate of Ireland Award.

In order to qualify for submission, films must be shot in Ireland, and filmmakers based in or associated with a company based in Ireland. Filmmakers of Irish heritage who are not currently based in Ireland may apply to the shorts category only.

For further application details, visit the festival website.

The deadline for submissions is December 31st, 2013.

Submissions Now Open for 61st Sydney Film Festival
Due to take place from Wednesday June 4th to Sunday June 15th of next year, the 61st annual Syndey Film Festival is currently open to submissions in a variety of formats and genres.

Applicants can submit films for five separate categories, whether for awards consideration or simply screening purposes. These categories consist of the Official Competition which is designed to reward new directions in film, the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Film, the Australian Documentary Prize, and two non-competitive categories: the Official Section for screening at the festival and the Retrospective Section designed to honour a filmmaker, movement or genre in film history.

Past winners at the Sydney Film Festival include Don McAlpine ('Moulin Rouge') and Chris Noonan, writer and director of 'Babe'.

Separate application processes apply to each of the separate categories, and applicants are urged to read them thoroughly before applying . A small entrance fee applies.

Narrow Window For Belfast Short Film Festival Submissions
Submissions for next year's Belfast Film Festival are being called upon, with a narrow window between now and December 16th 2013 left to apply.

With an intended showcase on both local and international talent, the Belfast Film Festival is currently seeking submissions under twenty minutes in length, completed in the past year, and made in Ireland.

Known for its innovative screening venues - having previously run events on boats and in cathedrals alike -, the short film festival also aims to provide a platform for debate across the religious, social and cultural divides in Northern Ireland. Past festivals have seen many big industry names pass through, from Irish talents Jim Sheridan and Aidan Gillen to Martin Sheen and Bernard Hill.

The deadline for entries is December 16th, and all applications must be posted or delivered to festival headquarters on the 3rd Floor, 23 Donegall Street, Belfast, BT1 2FF by that date. Successful applicants will be notified by February 7th 2014.
