The Associate Producer should be an experienced production journalist whose role is to provide direct support to the programme editor. The Associate Producer should have a great eye for detail, must ensure that the content of all bulletins is visually creative, accurate, and delivered to air on time. This is a key position that requires comprehensive knowledge of television production. The post holder will also be required to edit their own stories for air.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
- Support the programme editor to deliver first class news stories to air
- Work with reporters to ensure all stories are delivered to deadline
- Act as liaison with the Graphics department to produce powerful images for studio walls to enhance each production
- Source and produce digital news content for online platforms
- Produce national and international news stories to a high standard
- Check captions and graphic content
- Engage fully with the news agenda of the day
- Produce maps and data visuals for breaking news stories
- Support the news desk in sourcing interviewees and stories
- Contribute to the creative process of story-telling for daily bulletins
- You will be expected to perform duties as necessitated by your changing role and the overall business objectives of the Company, as directed
Skills & Expertise:
- At least three years’ experience in broadcast journalism at a senior level
- Strong broadcast production skills and high production values
- A third level or professional qualification in journalism or equivalent professional experience
- Understand the value of using data graphics in news
- Excellent communication skills
- A great news sense and eye for a story
- Excellent story-telling skills, with a strong emphasis on creativity
- An authoritative voice for delivering news stories
- Great attention to detail
- Knowledge of legal issues relating to television journalism
- A thorough knowledge of Irish and international news and current affairs
- The ability to self-edit on modern television news production systems
- Enthusiasm and energy for broadcast news
- An interest and understanding of publishing to social media platforms
- A robust work ethic that recognises the need for flexibility
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills
- A good contacts book
- Experience in a national television newsroom
- A third level or professional qualification in journalism or equivalent professional experience
