The John Ford Ireland Film Symposium took place in Dublin from 7-10 June 2012. The event hosted with scholars and filmmakers from across the world ending a four-day celebration of cinema’s most-lauded Irish-American director.
Lively debates, incisive lectures, public interviews with filmmakers, documentary premieres, anecdotal stories on Ford, live music events and, of course, a series of screenings of Ford classics marked a hugely well-received inaugural event, which was organised by the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA).
Among the guests at the event were American writer, director and actor Peter Bogdanovich who took part in a Public Interview, Editor Joel Cox who gave a masterclass in the Project Arts centre and directors Jim Sheridan, Thaddeus O'Sullivan, Brian Kirk and John Boorman who took part in a 'Directors Panel' discussion which was chaired by Empire Magazine's Kim Newman.
