IFTN Caught Up with Young Irish Actress & Voice Over Artist Susie Power
06 Jul 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Susie Power
IFTN caught up with one of Irelandís busiest young stars, Susie Power, ahead of the debut screenings of her two new projects at the Galway Film Fleadh next week.

One of these premieres include Ireland’s first ever stop motion feature film ‘Captain Morten and the Spider Queen’, in which Susie plays the leading female role of Eliza alongside Brendan Gleeson, Ciaran Hinds, and Michael McElhatton.

Speaking about ‘Captain Morten and the Spider Queen’, which will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh next week, Susie told IFTN:

“I am really looking forward to seeing the premiere of Captain Morten and the Spider Queen at the Galway Film Fleadh. I play Elizabeth/Eliza and am so happy to be a part of Ireland’s first stop motion film. I loved recording with Robin Lyons in Telegael. It’s always such a treat to go to Spiddal for the recordings because I always speak Irish whilst there.”

Another film Susie has been invited to attend at the Fleadh, as cast, is Jeda de Brí’s short film ‘Procession’, which will also be held at the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday 14th July at 12 noon.

A bilingual Irish actress, Susie is best known for playing ‘Eleanor Daly’ on RTE’s “Fair City” and as the title character in CBBC/Jam Media’s “Little Roy” which was recently nominated for Best Animation at the 2018 IFTA Gala TV Awards which she recently attended.

Speaking about her first IFTAs, Susie told IFTN:

“I recently attended the IFTAs with Jam Media as Little Roy was nominated for Best Animation. I really felt so proud to be there with Jam Media and also so proud of my character Little Roy. It was an absolutely unreal experience and everyone at IFTA was so friendly and lovely.”

Susie has also had featured roles in various TV and Film productions including ‘A Date for Mad Mary’, ‘Dark Touch’, ‘Ellie’, ‘Hannah Cohen’s Holy Communion’, ‘Sophie at the Races’, Sky’s ‘Little Crackers’; and in Theatre including Druid Theatre Company’s ‘Brigit’ & Cameron Mackintosh’s touring production of ‘Oliver’.

At the tender age of four Susie received ‘Junior Achiever of the Year’ at the “Maternity & Infant Awards” for outstanding acting on Fair City. In 2015 Susie was crowned the ‘Overall World Champion Junior Actor’ at the “World Championships of Performing Arts” in California.
As a Voice Actor, Susie has been involved in many animated and motion capture projects including Telegael’s ‘YoYo Let’s Go’, RTE Junior’s ‘Mya Go’, & Moetion Films’ ‘Luis & His Friends From Outer Space’, ‘Up and Away’ & ‘Giant Pear’.

Speaking about her work as a voice over artist for children’s animations, Susie told IFTN:

"I love doing voice over work. It is unreal to see the amount of work that goes into the whole animation process. I am honoured that I have been involved with so many fantastic animations as a voice over artist for Jam Media, Telegael, Moetion Films and Piranha Bar/Rte junior and Nickelodeon. When you see a finished animation, it is always so much better than you ever expected it to be!”

Susie can next be seen as ‘Sylvia the Fox’, one of the lead characters, in new Jam Media/Nick Junior Animation ‘Beccas Bunch’, which aired for the first time this week. This new animation is tipped to be the next big thing in children's animation with merchandise to become available in the near future. Susie is the only Irish cast member alongside the USA cast.

‘Captain Morton and the Spider Queen’ screens at the Galway Film Fleadh on Sunday, July 15th at 4pm in the Town Hall Theatre, Galway.
