Based on the brilliant autobiography by Frank McCourt of his childhood Limerick. Born into abject poverty, Frank's father was an unemployable alcoholic and his mother the hard suffering wife. Despite utterly miserable conditions, the deaths of his siblings, malnutrition and devoid of any material comfort, Frank retained the belief throughout his childhood that a better life could be found.
