In the run up to Christmas, we have invited some of Ireland’s leading Film & TV talents to take part in IFTN’s festive Q&A.
Earlier this year, Bríd Ní Neachtain won the IFTA for Lead Actress Film for her performance in Róise & Frank, not long after appearing as Mrs. O’Riordan in the IFTA-winning The Banshees of Inisherin. Ní Neachtain also starred in Advent this year, which had its World Premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival last October.
Bríd Ní Neachtain’s career spans film, television and theatre. Among her most well-known work is her tenure as Rita O’Connor in Ros na Rún from 1996 to 1999.
IFTN: What was your highlight of 2023?
BRÍD: “My highlight of 2023 was winning the IFTA for my work on Roise & Frank.”
IFTN: What are you most looking forward to working on in the New Year?
BRÍD: “I will be working on a new Irish translation of Aeschylus’ Greek tragedy Na Peirsigh/ Persians for the Abbey Theatre.”
IFTN: What was your favourite film of 2023?
BRÍD: “Favourite film… Women Talking.”
IFTN: What Irish talent have you been impressed with over the past 12 months?
BRÍD: “Bríd Brennan’s performance in My Sailor My Love.”
IFTN: What International talent would you most like to work with?
BRÍD: “I would love to work with Frances McDormand. She has four Academy Awards, two Emmys, three BAFTAs, two Golden Globes and a Tony Award. A fascinating woman.”
IFTN: What two film/television personalities would you most like to have dinner with and why?
BRÍD: “Geena Rowlands and the late John Cassavates. They were independent cinema’s first power couple. Their very successful cinematic partnership enthralled me, moved me and inspires me.”
IFTN: What are your favourite movies to watch on Christmas day?
BRÍD: “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
