Telegael Co-Production ‘Captain Morten and Spider Queen’ set to open in French Cinemas on 15th August 2018
10 Aug 2018 :
Captain Morten and Spider Queen

'Captain Morten and the Spider Queen', the first stop-motion animated feature film made in Ireland, will be released in French cinemas on the 15th August 2018 by French distributor Septieme Factory. The film will roll out in 70 screens initially and is expected to screen in approximately 600 cinemas in total. The film is co-produced by Telegael of Galway, Nukufilm, Estonia; Grid Animation, Belgium and Calon, Wales

Top French TV Channel TF1, has nominated the film 'Capitaine Morten et la Reine des Araignées' as one of the Top 5 family movies to see this Summer. Other films included in the Top 5 list are Tom Cruise's 'Mission Impossible' and 'Hotel Transylvania 3'. The French Trailer can be viewed at http://www.septiemefactory.com/capitaine-morten-et-la-reine-des-araignees/

The film had its worldwide premier at the World Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb and had 5 official screenings at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June.

Produced on a budget of €10 million 'Captain Morten and the Spider Queen' has been six years in the making. It tells the story of a boy who aspires to be a ship's captain like his dad. He builds a toy boat only to find himself sailing in it together with a crew of insects battling against the elements, including pirates, a threatening storm and an evil Spider Queen.

The all-Irish cast includes, Brendan Gleeson, Pauline McLynn, Ciarán Hinds, Cian O'Down, Susie Power, Mario Rosenstock and Michael McElhatton as well as stand-up comedians Jason Byrne, Tommy Tiernan and Neil Delamere.

The film is the brainchild of Kaspar Jancis, winner of the Cartoon D'Or for his short film 'Krokodil'. Jancis is a writer, musician and animator and this is his first feature film.

'It is a terrific story' says Telegael CEO, Paul Cummins 'played out with amazing characters and stunning visuals with an all Irish cast. We are looking forward to seeing Captain Morten and his crew inspire, entertain and engage audiences in France and around the world.'

'Captain Morten And The Spider Queen' is being sold worldwide by Sola Media.
