This marks Greek director Christos Nikou’s English language debut. Fingernails is being released through Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films banner, and being distributed globally by Apple.
Fingernails is Greek filmmaker Christos Nikou’s second feature, following the success of his debut feature Apples at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. The film stars Jessie Buckley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), as well as Luke Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums) and Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek).
The film follows Anna (Buckley) who begins to have doubts about her relationship with her longtime partner. In an attempt to improve things, she visits a mysterious institute designed to incite and test the presence of romantic love in increasingly desperate couples.
Nikous is producing the film alongside Cate Blanchett (Tár), who released his debut Apples through her banner Dirty Films after seeing it in the Venice Film Festival. Coco Francini (The Hateful Eight), Andrew Upton (Carol), and Lucas Wiesendanger (The Craft: Legacy) are also producing. Marcell Rév, best known for his work on HBO’s Euphoria, is on board as cinematographer.
Fingernails makes its international debut next month at the Toronto International Film Festival. Apple TV+ will release the film in select theaters and stream it beginning November 3.
