One of Netflix‘s most popular series, Wednesday, is relocating production to Ireland. Start of production is reportedly slated for late April.
Wednesday, one of Netflix’s most popular series is set to film its second season in Ireland. Its first season became the most popular English-language series on the streaming service with 252 million views, almost double the views for its nearest competitor in the English language, Stranger Things season 4.
The first season of the Jenna Ortega-led series was shot in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. Following the series’ success internationally, the Wednesday sets became major tourist attractions, giving Romania’s tourism industry a boost. However it is reported that this location presented logistical challenges for production.
Wednesday is produced by MGM Television, a sibling company of Amazon Studios which recently relocated production of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from New Zealand to the UK.
Creators/showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) have not yet released any information about the plot details of Wednesday season 2.
The show is directed by Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands), James Marshall (Into the Badlands), and Gandja Monteiro (Brand New Cherry Flavor), and executive produced by Burton. Other executive producers on the series include Steve Stark (Toluca Pictures), Andrew Mittman (1.21 Entertainment), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman (Glickmania), Gail Berman, Tommy Harper and Kevin Lafferty.
