Using never before seen archive footage, ‘The Siege 1922’ – or ‘An Léigear 1922’ – relates the events of just ten days that altered the course of Irish history forever – from the opening salvo across the river Liffey to Cathal Brugha’s dramatic shootout from an O’Connell Street hotel.
Reconstructing the events of those crucial days, the film uses a wealth of film and photographs from Irish, American and British archives, as well as diary entries, soldiers' letters, personal accounts and oral testimonies of civilians, to tell the definitive story of one of the most pivotal and brutal events in Ireland’s history.
The Irish Civil War documentary premiered on TG4 at 9.30pm the 23rd of October 2013.
