Irish actor Éanna Hardwicke (Lakelands, Vivarium) has been presented with the Shooting Stars Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Last night, Irish actor Éanna Hardwicke was presented with a European Shooting Star Award at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), one of 10 actors chosen as the most promising up-and-coming European talents this year. The actor follows in the footsteps of Irish actors Ruth Negga, Domhnall Gleeson and Andrew Scott, all previous recipients of the award.

“It’s a real honour to represent Ireland at the European Shooting Stars,” said Éanna Hardwicke. “On top of that, it’s inspiring to be alongside these hugely talented actors, from whom I’ve already learnt so much. Irish film is in a great place and I’m proud to call myself a part of this industry.”

This is the 26th edition of European Shooting Stars, an initiative to promote European acting talent. The selected ten actors, seven women and three men, have been presented to the international press, industry, and public in an exclusive four-day programme during the 74th Berlinale. The programme culminated in the European Shooting Stars Awards Ceremony last night, at the Berlinale Palast.

Hardwicke’s growing body of work as an actor in recent years has resulted in a nomination for the IFTA Rising Star Award for 2023. In the same year, he was also selected by Screen International as a Rising Star Ireland 2023, a Screen Ireland-supported initiative to highlight up and coming talent across Irish acting, directing and producing.

European Shooting Stars has marked a stepping-stone for an actor's international career in the past, with notable Shooting Stars of recent years including: Carey Mulligan (The Dig, Promising Young Woman, The Great Gatsby), Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Beckett, Tomb Raider), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Riz Ahmed (Encounter, Sound of Metal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Mogul Mowgli), and George MacKay (Munich – The Edge of War, 1917).
